ParkFinder Privacy Policy

Volatile Apps ("we", "our", or "us") built the ParkFinder application as a free service. This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information when you use our mobile application.

1. Information We Collect and Use

a. Location Information

ParkFinder uses your device's GPS and location data to:

• Display national parks and campgrounds near your current position.
• Show your location on interactive maps.
• Provide distance and estimated drive-time badges.
• Send local background notifications when you are within close proximity of a saved favorite park or campground.

Note: Location data is processed locally on your device or sent to OpenStreetMap Nominatim for state reverse-geocoding. We do not store or sell your real-time location on our servers.

b. Account & Authentication Data

• Anonymous Mode: By default, you can use ParkFinder without providing personal information. An anonymous user ID is generated by Firebase to keep your saved favorites and passport stamps linked to your device.
• Google Sign-In: If you choose to sign in with Google to sync across devices, we collect your name, email address, and profile photo provided by Google.

c. User-Generated Data

• Favorites: Parks and campgrounds you add to your favorites list are stored securely in Google Firebase Realtime Database and are private to your account.
• Digital Passport Check-Ins: Check-in records and visit timestamps are stored securely in Google Firebase Realtime Database and are private to your account.

d. Diagnostics & Analytics

We use Google Firebase Crashlytics to monitor application stability, collect crash reports, and improve application reliability. These reports do not contain personal information.

2. Third-Party Services

ParkFinder integrates with the following third-party services:

• National Park Service (NPS) API (Park information and alerts)
• Recreation.gov (RIDB) API (Campground and facility information)
• Google Firebase (Authentication, Realtime Database, Crashlytics)
• Open-Meteo (Weather forecasts and elevation data)
• OpenStreetMap (Map tiles and geocoding)

3. Data Retention and Deletion

You can delete your downloaded offline park packs at any time within the app. If you wish to delete your account and associated favorites/passport data, you may request deletion by contacting us.

4. Children's Privacy

ParkFinder does not knowingly collect personal identifiable information from children under the age of 13.
